SodHouse Theatre of Saskatchewan
Sodhouse Theatre of Saskatchewan is an independent theatre company based in Regina that creates, develops and produces new work. Committed to building community amongst Regina and Saskatchewan’s artists and arts supporters, SodHouse Theatre explores the stories found amongst the dust and dirt of the Western Canadian Prairies.
Who are we?
Founding Artistic Director | Judy Wensel
Judy Wensel is a Regina-based theatre artist who works as an actor, director, improviser, theatre creator and teacher. Judy’s dedication to the expansion of Saskatchewan’s arts community was regionally recognized in 2009 when she received the Regina Mayor’s Arts and Business Award for emerging artist and she was nationally recognized in the fall of 2011, when she received the 2011 Stage West/Equity National Emerging Theatre Artist award. Since graduating from the University of Regina’s BFA Acting Program, she has worked extensively with Regina’s Globe Theatre as director, actor and theatre instructor. Her theatre and improv work has brought her across North America working with such companies as Instant Theatre Company (Victoria, Vancouver), One Yellow Rabbit (Calgary), 2b Theatre (Halifax), Rapid Fire Theatre (Edmonton) and Philly Improv Theatre (Philadelphia). She founded and co-produced Regina’s only regularly occurring improv show Combat Improv from 2007-2012 and works as a trainer and judge with the Canadian Improv Games.
Judy is continually pursuing opportunities to create and produce her own work. Through her bold, unrelenting determination to work as a theatre artist in Saskatchewan, Wensel founded SodHouse Theatre of Saskatchewan which strives to create and maintain a powerful and compelling presence on the Saskatchewan stage.
